First proclaimed in 1971, by then President Richard Nixon, ICW is celebrated every year by millions of clowns all over the world. The purpose of ICW is to recognize the men and women who apply the greasepaint and wear the colorful clothing, bringing laughter and fun to everyone around them.
The CHARLIE Award is given yearly by the Clowns of America International to the clown alley who best exemplifies the spirit of clowning. Alleys must try to secure proclamations from area government, spread the word of clowning, and devote time to causes where clowning will bring joy. All of these must be documented in a scrapbook to be judged by COAI.
CHARLIE means "Clowns Have a real love in everyone."
A BIG thank you to everyone who helped us win this honor!
